The Ranch on Silver Creek in EvergreenTucked up into the southeast foothills, east of Highway 101, the Evergreen area of San Jose is a scenic area with some of the most diversity in San Jose, both in culture and in housing. Once a collection of orchards, mostly black walnut, today Evergreen’s industry includes a pleasant mix of offices, community facilities, and retail ranging from Eastridge Mall and chains to many ethnic grocery stores and specialty shops. With a number of golf clubs, the Raging Waters water park, the two-runway Reid-Hillview airport, and many beautiful parks, such as Lake Cunningham Park, Windmill Springs Park, and Groesbeck Park, Evergreen is abundant in recreational opportunities.

Students in the area are served by the Evergreen School District. One of the fastest growing districts in the Bay Area, the Evergreen School District has as its motto “Commitment to Excellence.” This commitment is evident in the district’s Fifteen California Distinguished Schools and nine National Blue Ribbon Schools. Higher education is also available in the area through Evergreen Valley College.

Housing ranges from modest to luxury, with both flatland and hillside options and a few prestigious gated communities. Architecturally, neighborhoods include both old, established homes and some of the newest in Silicon Valley. The housing market in Evergreen is always a little calmer than in the rest of the Santa Clara County, and your dollar goes a little farther there. Some of the neighborhoods in Evergreen include these: The Villages (older construction retirement community set around a golf course), Silver Creek Valley Country Club, Richmond Ranch, Mirassou Vinelyards, Hillstone, Bel-Aire Estates,  The Meadowlands, The Ranch on Silver Creek, Silvarland, Chaboya, Creekside, and Buena Park.

I’ve written about Evergreen on one of my other blogs, and about one neighborhood in particular as well.  To learn more, continue reading here:
